When I used to think about cloth nappies, old fashioned images of washing poop covered fabric in buckets came to mind. I had NO IDEA that they could be easy, in fact EASIER to use than regular nappies.
I’ve always been a Pampers/Sainsburys nappies kinda gal, ever since Lawson was born. I’ve always been quite fussy, we’ve tried all the supermarket own brand nappies, and really, Sainsburys and Pampers were the only ones we felt happy with. So when Bambino Mio got in touch to see whether we’d like to try their cloth nappies, I was a little sceptical to say the least! But they are celebrating their 20th birthday, so I couldn’t really say no… It’s their birthday!
Our little package arrived, and INSTANTLY I fell in love with this print! Advantage of cloth nappies #1 – they are SO much cuter than regular nappies!
Bambino Mio set us some challenges to really put these nappies to the test, so we tried each one, and were surprisingly impressed with the results!
1. THE STAY AT HOME CHALLENGE
This one was easy. It gave me a chance to get used to the nappies, figure out how to change them/wash them and just find my feet a little bit. Lawson has actually been suffering from a terrible nappy rash from teething, so the softness of the cloth nappies was a HUGE comfort to him I think. Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever felt anything so soft in my life, and he seemed pretty happy to be wearing them too!
2. THE OUT AND ABOUT CHALLENGE
This one made me a little nervous. I was actually worried about how these nappies might look underneath Lawson’s clothes, whether they might make them look a bit bulky, but honestly, there was no difference at all. I packed my bag with a spare nappy, a liner, and the handy little storage bag for dirty ones they come with, and went on my way.
We actually didn’t have to change Lawson’s nappy whilst out, these cloth ones are surprisingly absorbent!
3. THE OVERNIGHT CHALLENGE
If I thought the last one made me nervous, this one was really putting me out of my comfort zone! I hate nothing more than dealing with leaks in the middle of the night, changing sleeping bags, nappies, sheets, pyjamas – I would just rather be sleeping! But there was none of that. These babies lasted all night long, the full 12 hours – needless to say, I’m getting a bit hooked!
4. THE DAD, GRANDPARENT OR BABYSITTER CHALLENGE
Dan’s exact words when changing these nappies were ‘oh… they’re exactly the same as other nappies!’ I’m not quite sure what he expected, probably some kind or archaic process similar to my bucket washing visions, but he too was surprised at how easy it all was.
5. THE WASHING & DRYING CHALLENGE
I was really glad to see this challenge in there. One of the main things that has always put me off cloth nappies was the thought of doing even MORE washing because they take ages to dry. Not these ones! We don’t own a tumble dryer, so our nappies went on the drying rack along with the other washing, and they were dry overnight, it was SO QUICK. They dried as soft as they went in, I’m just really impressed with the quality!
So for someone who never thought they would try cloth nappies, I’m actually kind of converted! I’m going to continue to use my little sample of Bambino Mio nappies, and build up my collection over time. The prints are going to be a bit of an addiction for me, I can tell!
Do you use cloth nappies? I’d love to hear your top tips to help me on my way!
Massive thank you to Bambino Mio for opening our eyes to the world of cloth nappies, and Happy 20th Birthday!
